Completed after the grinding phase of metallographic specimen preparation, polishing is used to remove any damage remaining from grinding steps in order to achieve the smoothest surface or best possible planeness. This is achieved with polishing cloths of various materials oftentimes used in combination with diamond suspensions, diamond pastes, and other powders and liquids with varying grain sizes to produce scratch and deformation-free samples.
The same equipment used for grinding can be used for specimen polishing. We sell polishing cloths, diamond pastes and suspensions, alumina slurries, and every other type of polishing compound needed for prepping specimens of different metals, ductility, and hardness. We also sell small 1.0” – 2.0” polishing cloths and grinding papers for field metallography work.
